Welcome to the August 2019 ladies tennis update.
The month began with the last week of the Line Tennis and finished with the first week of the Club Championships. Thanks to those of you who sent me pictures and updates……and my usual appeal for material (photos, reports etc.) to make the updates as interesting as possible. Please take pictures at club events, league matches etc. and send them to me.
Please contact myself or any of my Ladies Tennis Team with any queries or suggestions.
Clare Byrne (Ladies Captain)
Ladies Line Tennis
The Ladies Line Tennis was very well supported with 100% of matches played by the deadline. Congratulations to the line winners and runners-up:
Ladies Wednesday Mornings
The Summer tennis finished with a lovely tennis tea-party. As usual, there was a raffle and the person who drew the first ticket nominated a charity for the money collected during the Summer session. Mairead Guiney was the winner and €342.40 was donated to the Laura Lynn foundation.
Many thanks to Catherine Tobin, Marina Reddy and Maura Tutty for a lovely morning and for all of your hard work over the Summer.
The regular Wednesday morning social tennis will start back on September 18th. All standards of tennis are welcome, as are new faces….and of course the regulars.
The sign on sheet will open on the Monday morning and close on Tuesday at 9 p.m. Cost of €5 includes tea/coffee, after tennis.
Ger O’Brien, Gerrie O’Connell, Marcia McGee and Monica Woods will be running Wednesday Mornings from September. Thanks a million ladies for volunteering!
Ladies Thursday Nights
Thanks to Emer Soulsby and Noreen Kelly who organised a rota to keep Thursday night social tennis running over the Summer. Theey managed to squeeze in 2 nights in August between Line Tennis and the Club Championships. Thanks also to the volunteers who ran the tennis nights.
The regular Thursday night tennis will resume on 12th September. Many thanks to Bernadette Hearns, Nuala Breach, Siobhán King and Sharon Bohan who have volunteered to run the tennis this year.

Tennis for Tessa
Martina Garvey and Máire Bríd Casey ran a great mixed tennis fund raising event in the club on Friday 30th August for the Little Miss Tessa Trust for Tessa Garry. Tessa’s father, Mark is an active member of the club as are Tessa’s siblings Michael, Leo and Anna.
Over €4,000 was raised on the night. Thanks to all for your generosity.
Congratulations to all of our female members who excelled in Open tournaments in August!
Congratulations also to Sue Spencer, Laura Doris, Joan Dolan, Jemma Sinclair and Liz Brennan on their success in the Wexford Open.
The current coaching session has been extended by 2 weeks as it was not possible to run sessions during the Club Championships.
