Ladies Tennis March Update

March was another busy month for ladies tennis in the club and I have tried to summarise the activity below.

Thanks to those of you who sent me pictures and updates during the month. I really need material (photos, reports etc.) to make the updates as interesting as possible, so please take pictures at club events, league matches etc. and send them to me.

Please contact myself or any of the Ladies Tennis Team with any queries or suggestions.

International Womens Day

International Womens Day 8 March – women in the club celebrated by playing Thursday Night Tennis.

Team Tennis Survey

Thanks to everyone who took the time to complete the survey. Over half of the women who played responded which was a great result. Responses were pretty positive and most people enjoyed the competition and the finals night party. A couple of charts with data only from the women’s responses below (hover over or click them to see a bigger picture). Please click here for the full set of results.

Winter League

Marian Rance celebrating her birthday by playing league

Thanks to everybody who played Winter League this year and to the 8 team captains. The weather was pretty bad at times and one week was postponed because of the snow. Three teams made it through to the playoffs – Castleknock 5, Castleknock 6 and Castleknock 8.  Details of the group stages are available here.

Monday Morning Friendly League

The  League starts on Monday 9 April and our team is:

  • Gráinne Raoof + Liz O’Donnell
  • Mirielle Finnegan + Patricia Coady
  • Caitriona O’Farrell + Valerie Bowens

Subs: Rosaleen O’Malley, Teresa Horan, Fiona Moran and Sue Spencer

Fixtures are available here. Best of luck ladies!

Many thanks to Liz O’Donnell for organising this.

Summer League

Summer League starts on Monday 14th May. Matches are on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 7:30pm. A team comprises 2 doubles pairings and 3 singles players. We have entered 8 teams and I would encourage everyone to enter, we particularly need singles players. Look out for the sign-on sheet for Summer League in early April on the web.

Spring Championships

The Spring Championships will run from Monday 9th to Saturday 21st April.

The competition is open to everyone and all standards are catered for. There are singles, ladies doubles and mixed events and all of these are graded so you will be playing against players of a similar standard to yourself. I would love to have more people playing singles as it makes for better events if we have a bigger entry.

For doubles and mixed events, don’t worry if don’t have a partner, just enter as partner required and we will do our best to pair you up.

Click here for further information and to enter the competition. Registration closes on Friday 30 March at 11pm.

Ladies Thursday nights

Thursday night tennis is back in full swing and attendance levels are great, between 40 and 50 per night. There will be a break of 2 weeks during the Spring Championships (12th, 19th April).

The Finals Night Party is scheduled for Friday 25th May. If anybody has a suggestion for a venue, please talk to Brenda or Sue.

Ladies Wednesday mornings

The weather has picked up at last and Wednesday mornings have even seen some sunshine!

There will be a break next Wednesday for Easter – 4th April.

The final date on 30th May will include fun tennis and a party. 8 mornings are required to qualify for a prize.

Box Tennis

The latest round of the Doubles and Singles box leagues are due to complete by 9 April. Please get your matches played before then. Box League tables and results to date are available here.

A new round will start after the Spring Championships. Please let Helen Mohan know if you want to be included in either the singles or doubles.

Friday Night Mixed

Friday night mixed has proved very popular with a full house every night. We have added an extra night on Friday 6 April as we missed a week due to the snow.  The Sign On sheet opens on Tuesday mornings at 10am and the ladies slots fill up very quickly so get in early!

Cost is  €3 per night, including tennis, cheese and crackers and a prize for the best lady / man in the bar afterwards.

Thanks to Valerie Bowens and Eugene O’Brien for running this popular social competition.

Group Coaching Sessions

We will be arranging group coaching sessions for ladies. Keep an eye on the News section of the site for updates.
