Return to play- Phase 1

 Dear Members
I am pleased to report that we will be re-opening our courts from Monday 18th May.
Play will be restricted to social tennis only in accordance with the Government’s announcement on 1st May in respect of the Roadmap for Reopening Society.

Tennis Ireland, in conjunction with Government and medical experts, have finalised guidance / protocols for all affiliated tennis clubs which are available on the Tennis Ireland website: Return to Tennis Guidance
The guidance has been reviewed by our Club’s Executive Committee prior to being finalised and our comments were submitted to Tennis Ireland.
The Executive Committee has considered the final recommendations issued by Tennis Ireland and have decided that we as a club should adhere to them.
Some of the protocols outlined in the guidance are:
Access to the clubhouse will not be permitted during this phase
Online booking through the court booking system will be essential to assist in Contact Tracing if required
For the most part, players will only be allowed to play singles – in limited circumstances doubles play is allowed if each pairing are from the same household
Travel for tennis will not be considered a ‘necessary journey’ and the ‘Stay at Home’guidance issued by the Government of not travelling more than 5km from home under Phase 1 should be observed
Public health guidance for persons aged over 70 or in a high-risk health category should continue to be observed

We expect that these protocols will evolve and be reviewed further prior to the end of Phase 1. Any changes at that time will be communicated to Members.
The guidance & protocols are to ensure that we can collectively adhere to public health advice and build on the fantastic work being done by our frontline workers, many of whom are Club members. It will also help to ensure that you the members and our staff remain safe.

Leinster Tennis have recommended that court bookings be temporarily limited to one hour for all tennis sessions. This will ensure that more members can play as the demand is expected to be high. We have adjusted our Court Booking System and will keep this in place for 2-3 weeks and under review.
Additionally, we have adjusted the system for staggering start times.   We have prepared the document entitled CLTC RTP Phase 1 in response to Tennis Ireland’s protocols. These outline & explain the basis on which play may resumes in the initial phase – LINK

We have also prepared the document entitled Additional Measures Deployed in Adherence with the Guidelines – LINK.

This document outlines some other considerations which we are asking Members to adhere to.
We would ask that you familiarise yourselves with both these documents before resuming play.
The Court Booking System will open for bookings on 13th May in advance of tennis resuming on the 18th May.
It will be possible to use the Food & Beverage Credit on Members Cards to purchase Tennis Balls which will be available from the balcony.
We would ask Members to make every effort to adhere to the guidance protocols.
We will be issuing further guidance for Juniors and Coaches over the coming days and we will have supervisors on site to assist Members.
Although Phase 1 is designed to initially ease the restrictions, we note that 3 weeks later on June 8th, Phase 2 will begin which should see the restrictions being eased further including increasing the travel distance to 20km – More details will follow.

We are delighted that the playing of social tennis is resuming from 18th May. We see this as a particularly important first step in our journey towards a full reopening of the Club and look forward to being able to offer Members the full enjoyment of our facilities in the near future.
We hope that you continue to keep safe and are looking forward to these fledgling steps to resuming tennis on this new path to normality.

Philip Carey
